Layla

Layla is a Toronto based artist. She engages with her artwork on multiple levels; mentally, physically and spiritually. Her process begins as something that could be described as dark and vulnerable. Getting extremely involved with her work she fingerpaints. This method gives her a sense of displaying raw emotion by the hands-on transfer from her mind to canvas. She is inspired mainly by nature. The works range from being softly blended to highly textured. This is to showcase the complete calm of a still day to the absolute treachery of existence; mimicking her vast emotional ranges. Layla puts a lot of passion, integrity and all of herself into every piece that gets created. The works will take on several transitions until the artist feels it has captured a fragment of her soul. The painting experience tackles a wide spectrum of feelings and is only finished once a sense of completeness is present. Painting is a cathartic process for her. And she hopes that the viewer will feel some sense of their own catharsis as well by being in their presence. Her works have been described as therapeutic and mesmerizing by many of their owners. She seldom takes on commissions; as the creation process is one of a personal nature. It is her belief that the right individual will connect with their painting.
