Barkisu Cole Veiga, owner and founder of Barkisu LLC, finds inspiration in her cultural roots and upbringing. Raised in Serrekunda, The Gambia, she was captivated by the vibrant fabrics adorning her family and friends during traditional festivities and ceremonies. Upon relocating to the United States at 17, she noticed the stark contrast between traditional African attire and everyday American fashion, sparking the idea to blend the two in her designs. With travel ingrained in her life, Barkisu's brand focuses on connecting cultures through handmade bags and outerwear garments that reflect her experiences as both an African and an American.
